Looking for a fun and relaxed way to capture your relationship? This mini session at Elk Lake was the perfect reminder that you don't need an elaborate plan to create beautiful memories together.

This sweet couple won one of my Valentine's Instagram giveaways, and despite the light rain that greeted us that afternoon, we decided to embrace the weather—and I'm so glad we did! The soft, overcast skies created beautiful, even light, while the fresh rain gave the forest and lakeside a romantic, cozy atmosphere.

One of my favourite things about planning mini sessions is taking care of all the little details so my couples can simply arrive, relax, and enjoy spending time together.

For this session, I brought along a bottle of sparkling juice along with champagne glasses so they could celebrate without needing to organize anything themselves. After a few quiet moments walking through the forest trails beneath the towering trees, we made our way to the shoreline of Elk Lake.

To finish the session, I had them pop the sparkling bottle and spray it into the air, creating genuine laughter, excitement, and some of my favourite images from the evening. Those playful, candid moments often become the photos people treasure the most.

One of the biggest misconceptions about photography sessions is that perfect weather is required. In reality, lightly overcast or drizzly days often create some of the most beautiful conditions for photographs. The soft light is incredibly flattering, colours become richer, and locations like Elk Lake feel peaceful and intimate.

Whether you're celebrating Valentine's Day, an anniversary, an engagement, or simply want updated photos together, a mini couples session is a wonderful way to slow down and spend quality time with one another while creating lasting memories.

Elk Lake is one of my favourite locations for couples photography around Victoria because it offers such a variety of scenery within a short walk. From towering evergreens and quiet forest trails to the open shoreline and lake views, it's easy to create a gallery with lots of variety in just a 20 minute session.

I love creating experiences like this where all you have to do is show up. I'll guide you through the entire session with simple prompts and natural posing, while taking care of the little extras that make the experience feel special.

If you've been thinking about booking photos with your partner, don't wait for a special occasion. Couples sessions are perfect any time of year, and I hope to offer more seasonal mini sessions like this in the future around Victoria and Southern Vancouver Island.

If you'd like to be the first to hear about upcoming mini sessions or book a full couples session, I'd love to help you create something fun, relaxed, and uniquely you.
